Soda can spray nozzle

This is a specialized device we created to simulate the effect you get when opening a slightly shaken soda can. With this effect we synchronize a burst of cola scent. Both these elements are timed perfectly with a specific action taking place in a video, so the experience jumps off the screen into the physical environment.

In 2007 we were invited to take part in the Infocom digital signage futures pavilion. We came up with an immersive experience for visitors to enjoy, centered around a regular LCD screen. Take a look at the project “DSE demo”.

It’s really difficult to know exactly how the effect feles, but it is extremely realistic. With careful timing and firing, we are able to create small droplets of water mixed amongst a more fine spray of water - we create a pooling effect in the nozzle. Couple this with a timed cola scent release and the experience, firstly, delivers a surprise and secondly, is very realistic.

We’ve used this experience numerous other times but never had a camera handy, too bad, because the integration aspect was done far better, you could not tell where the nozzle was mounted.
