This demo was originally developed for the Digital Signage Futures Pavilion at InfoComm in early 2007. Integration into the booth, this first time, was far from ideal. In subsequent showings we have been able to work with fabricators prior to the event to ensure the installation was well integrated into the space. The images above reflect the subsequent installations, unlike what was captured in the above video.

A regular LCD screen hung on a wall is transformed into something quite different. As users approach the LCD screen their presence is detected - our host responds by greeting them. After the introduction, our host invites the visitor to select an experience which begins shortly after that.

In a matter of seconds, visitors are transported to a beach - the smell of coconut beach oil, a light breeze, the heat of the sun, video of a beach.... As our host in the video interacts with things like the umbrella, at one point he put’s it up, the heat (produced by an infrared heater) is turned off, etc. You’re draw very quickly into the whole experience. The final build-up is where the host exits to grab the visitor something cool to drink, he returns and opens “the” can of soda. To our visitors complete suprise, the slightly shaken can of soda bursts off screen at them - this is where we fire our custom spray nozzle and trigger a cola scent. It’s at this point to that we fire of 6 snaps from a web cam too.

Our host cracks a quick joke then presents our visitor with a post card… it contains a film strip of 6 pics - their before, during and after facial response to the surprise of the soda can effect.

The demo was a great success and proved to be a great viral marketing tool at the three trade shows we’ve been to - participants would bring their colleagues and clients over… nothing like letting them fall for the same surprise you just did!
